Every effort needs to be taken by the clerical staff to enter the correct study description and exams coded. Prior to the technical/sonographer staff signing the patient out – the exam codes must be checked and changed to reflect the study performed.
This is absolutely essential to ensure that the correct study is recorded in Comrad and that we invoice accordingly. If the techs/sonographers are asking clerical staff to sign out the patient and a change is required, then this MUST be noted on the label and the supporting secretary/concierge must change the exam code to reflect the study performed.
Examples include twin pregnancy ultrasounds being coded as single pregnancy (this creates an issue with Medicare claiming and will affect patient being able to claim down the track), lateral ceph not being coded when requested, EOS scans only being coded as spine instead of WB etc.
