MSK Ultrasound

A Radiologist is required to be in attendance for MSK ultrasound studies to be carried out.

NO MSK ULTRASOUNDS ARE TO BE BOOKED AT GRAFTON ST, SEVEN HILLS, 105 MAIN STREET.

If you work at any of the above sites please go over your bookings and make sure that there are no MSK ultrasounds booked.  MSK ultrasounds also include – soft tissue ultrasound, Chest and Abdo Wall ultrasounds.

MSK booking schedules will be dependent on Radiologist availability and therefore Melisa will not only send out a Dr Roster monthly but a roster with MSK availability times.  Please make sure that you refer to this as it’s going to be too hard to include this info in the reserves.

Generally speaking if all Drs available – the following will apply  - This is obviously all subject to change but is a guide.

Monday:

Campbell – ML (9am – 3pm)
Marsden – DB  (9-12)
Plumpton – NIL

Tuesday and Wednesday:

Campbell – DL (9am – 3pm)
Plumpton – ML (9am – 3pm)
Marsden – SK (9am – 3pm)

Thursday:

Campbell – DL (9am – 3pm)
Marsden – DB (9am – 3pm)
Plumpton – NIL    (This is Thursday’s Schedule if SK at Hospital – If SK available then Thursday will change)

Friday:

Campbell – DL (9am – 3pm)
Marsden and Plumpton – NIL ( Will change if Dr available)

Saturday:

No MSK Bookings

If a Radiologist is on site outside of these hours then MSK scans can be booked, however only with authorisation from the Radiologist and Technical staff (basically by special arrangement).  Please do not take it upon yourself to assume that the Radiologist will be available outside those hours as unfortunately things can change on the day and we don’t want to inconvenience patients so it is best to stick to those hours.

If a patient is wanting an MSK ultrasound performed at a site that doesn’t have a Radiologist on the day, then please direct to one of the rooms that does, if they insist on having it done then the only way would be to do it privately and this would mean that there is absolutely no rebate from Medicare.  The explanation is that a Radiologist must be in attendance for the examination to go ahead and if there’s not one in attendance then Medicare won’t pay for the test.  Notes will need to be put in the system regarding this and the receipt must state that it’s not rebateable and patient is aware of such.

Number range included in MSK items are as follows:

Items 55812 to 55895

Therefore numbers within this range require Radiologist attendance.
