Mistake of the Week 19.08.22

It seems many people are unsure of the definition of the word "morphology" and perhaps think it only relates to an ultrasound done at 19 weeks gestation.

When using the term in a medical context it is defined as:

• 1a: a branch of biology that deals with the form and structure of animals and plants
• b: the form and structure of an organism or any of its parts
  
  • amphibian morphology
    
  • external and internal eye morphology

In terms of a pregnancy ultrasound the word morphology can relate to any period of the gestation. So whilst the majority of ultrasounds performed at WIG in regards to morphology will be in the 17-22 week range, the word itself can relate to the entire pregnancy.
