Please take note of referrers – not all doctors can refer for all tests. The “who can request a diagnostic imaging service” sheet should be available at all front reception areas as well as in the phone room to help determine if a certain Dr such as Physiotherapist, Dentist, Chiropractor or even a Nurse Practitioner – can refer. It is incredibly important to determine this prior to arranging an appointment, because if the appointment is made and submitted to Medicare and rejected due to the Dr not being able to refer for the study requested, then that means we won’t be paid for that study!
The "who can request sheet" provides item numbers that these allied health practitioners can refer, these can be entered into Comrad to provide an actual exam name if you’re not familiar with the exam codes yourself.
Note for this week is that Nurse Practitioner’s cannot refer for DVT Dopplers – item 55244.
