It is really important that we put value to the services we provide. Both those that are bulk billed and even those that aren’t.
Nothing that we do is “FREE” – the scans that we bulk bill are not “Free”, someone is paying and that someone is all of us, including patients, through our taxes.
We bulk bill those scans that are Medicare eligible for patients that fall within the Medicare guidelines for a particular scan (of course we have exceptions such as Ba Meals, SI Joint injects, Hystograms etc).
It is really important that when explaining the payment aspect to a patient’s query regarding whether or not they need to pay - that we indicate that they won’t have any out of pocket payment for the scan they’re having and that the scan will be billed to Medicare for payment. The emphasis being that Medicare (someone) will be paying for the examination.
